Are Cores the same as runes or pet modules?
No. Official terms are Core, Core Fragments, Weapon Cores, and Combination Cores. Do not invent rune or pet module systems for Pax Autocratica Early Access.

Pax Autocratica cores are the roguelite half of the hybrid loop. On the star map you fight, then crack Core Fragment storage pods and choose a Fragment that reshapes the rest of that expedition.

Store copy and patch notes say Core, Core Fragments, Weapon Cores, and Combination Cores. Do not invent “runes,” pet modules, or unrelated loot taxonomies — if a community post uses slang, translate it back to Core before you plan a build.
Pods appear as you clear areas. The UI frames them as Tyrus tech: approach, open, pick one Fragment you like. That choice is the mid-run power spike that makes combat feel different every sortie.
Colony production and policies fund the expedition. Expeditions return resources, captives, and temporary Core power. Crafted weapons and colony progression stay home; the Fragment roster for that run ends when the expedition ends.
Next you need the type split — Weapon, Combination, and Troop Cores do different jobs.
Official framing splits Cores by job. Use this table before you click a purple card just because it glows.
| Type | What it does | When to prefer it |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon Cores | Reshape how your guns handle (fire feel, projectile behavior, weapon-specific rules) | You already love the gun in your hands and want it to mutate mid-run |
| Combination Cores | Create synergies between different Core sets | You are stacking a tagged set instead of one-off cards |
| Troop Cores | Buff allies or turn them into expendable shields / sacrifice tools | Squad density is high and you need body-block or ally DPS |
Weapon Cores change handling during the expedition. Pair them with the weapons page: a Fragment that wants a laser or missile behavior only pays off if that gun is equipped. Prologue-era UI even warned when a Weapon Core Fragment’s corresponding weapon was not equipped — treat that as a hard habit in Early Access too.
Combination Cores reward matching sets. A lonely high-rarity card can still lose to two lower cards that share a synergy tag. When the pod offers a set piece that completes a line you already started, take the set — shiny solo cards are bait.
Troop Cores strengthen allies or make them expendable shields. That matches the official fantasy: troops fight beside you and can be sacrificed. If your classes roster is thin, prioritize Weapon Cores first; if the squad is deep, Troop Cores turn meat into tempo.
Rarity color is the next filter once type is clear.
Community playthroughs read Fragment colors as a tier ladder. Label this as community-observed — Early Access can retune icons — but the color grammar is consistent enough to plan around.
| Color (community) | Tier read | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Green | Tier 2 | Solid early pick when it matches your gun or set |
| Blue | Tier 3 | Mid-run upgrades; still check synergy tags |
| Purple | Tier 4 | High priority if type matches; do not auto-pick over set completion |
| Orange / legendary | Tier 5 (community) | Rare spike — still refuse if it breaks your weapon match |
Players chase purple and orange pods for good reason, but a purple Weapon Core Fragment for a gun you are not holding is worse than a green Combination piece that finishes a set. Rarity answers “how strong is this card?” — type + equip state answer “does it belong on this run?”
With colors decoded, the mid-run decision table keeps picks honest.
Use this decision block every time a Core Fragment storage pod opens. It keeps Pax Autocratica cores choices tied to the gun and squad you actually brought.

| Situation | Prefer | Skip / delay |
|---|---|---|
| Gun feels weak vs current enemies | Weapon Core that mutates that gun | Random Troop Core if squad is already dying to your own positioning |
| Two cards share a set tag | Combination Core that completes the set | Higher rarity off-set card |
| Squad is deep, elites focus you | Troop Core (buff or sacrifice shield) | Another selfish gun mod if ammo is fine |
| Weapon Core Fragment wants unequipped gun | Swap weapon first, then take it — or refuse | Blind accept hoping the gun drops later |
| Ammo dry, melee still available | Utility that helps sustain, or extract soon | Greedy legendary that burns remaining clips faster |
Community guides describe pods spawning as you clear directions the red marker wants — not on a fixed wall-clock timer. Push objectives, open pods when they appear, and do not circle forever farming Fragments while capture targets and bosses walk away.
Persistence rules decide what survives the shuttle ride home.

Expedition Cores are temporary power for that sortie. Colony gear, crafted weapons, recruited people, and broader State progress persist. Do not confuse the two inventories.
| Asset | Persists after extract? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Core Fragments / expedition Core build | No (temporary per expedition) | Roguelite half resets when the run ends |
| Crafted weapons / armor / supplies | Yes | Made in colony workshops and research |
| Weapon blueprints unlocked | Yes | Progression stays on the State |
| Captured / hired citizens | Yes | See capture |
| Colony buildings & policies | Yes | See colony |
Take the Core that wins the next fight. Saving a “perfect” legendary for a sector you never reach is how Early Access runs die with a beautiful unused card.
Named Cores from patches are useful anchors while the full database stays TBA.
Full Core databases are still TBA in Early Access. These names are confirmed enough to cite without inventing stats.
| Name | Evidence | What we know |
|---|---|---|
| Missile Core | Patch / SteamDB notes | Has trigger range and damage-style attributes |
| Electric-Bouncer Core | Patch / SteamDB notes | Also lists trigger range and damage-style attributes |
| Weapon Core Fragment | Prologue / UI copy | Can warn if the matching weapon is not equipped |
| Grenade Radius Core | Community / data dumps | Treat as named example; exact numbers TBA |
| Extendo (community callout) | Playthroughs | Appears as a Fragment pick label — confirm in your build UI |
When a pod offers Missile Core or Electric-Bouncer Core, read trigger range and damage in the tooltip instead of memorizing a fake tier list. Prefer them when projectile pressure or bounce coverage matches the arena — dense bullet-hell rooms love bounce; open lanes love missile reach.
Before you celebrate a god roll, check the mistake list that burns the most Fragment stock.
These habits turn Core Fragments into dead weight or wipe the squad.
Core names, colors, and set tags can shift during Early Access. Re-read tooltips after patches and confirm live callouts on the official Discord or our Discord page. Pair every Fragment plan with the current weapons loadout page.

Expedition Core builds are temporary for that run. Colony gear, blueprints, buildings, and recruited people persist.
Weapon Cores reshape how your guns handle. Combination Cores create synergies between Core sets. Troop Cores buff or sacrifice allies.
Community guides commonly read green as Tier 2, blue Tier 3, purple Tier 4, and orange as legendary / Tier 5. Treat colors as community signals and still check type + weapon match.
Missile Core and Electric-Bouncer Core appear in patch / data notes with trigger range and damage-style fields. Full lists stay TBA.
